It’s going to be nearly two weeks that I am continuously listening to this record. It comes from Finland and was published last year, but I had some hard times trying to find it since even on eBay it does not exist, and finally I discovered Hevoset in January of 2009. And while most of the people tend to be totally obsessed by the new Animal Collective, which I reckon is really excellent, Hevoset has been keeping me busy, and despite the hours I have spent listening to it, it is still exceedingly tricky to describe what it sound likes. I have read on a blog (here) that this record is the proof that the sum can exceed the parts. What characterizes the best the music is the total absence of obvious melody, but it consists rather in a superposition of layer of noises, sounds and tunes which contribute to a hypnotic and consistent musical whole.
Hevoset is a side project from Kemialliset Ystävät who comes from the underground scene of Tampere. You can check is website, which is really beautiful, and looks like his music sounds. If you ‘re not convinced that a website can be the graphic equivalent of a sound, check here, and if your are patient enough (or just a bit geeky) you should be able to reach his myspace.
